The job:
The original scope of Apex’s work on this project was to repair the health suite, which was damaged by a fire. The main 25m pool and 15m learner pool had been filled with a scaffold birdcage, which had been erected to support a scissor lift, which would provide access for decorating works.
The challenge:
Whilst this work was on-going the roof covering was found to be failing so the entire roof needed replacing. An irregularly-shaped 1330m2 birdcage was erected up to seven lifts high in places. Two 43m hangdowns and 3000 boards provided a safe platform for roof removal and refurbishment of the steel frame. The biggest challenge was the external roof scaffold, which was erected to a curved 30˚ glazed curtain wall, facing out onto traffic routes into the city of Exeter
